From the text you will learn:
- What is the uniqueness of the Zeleniec microclimate and how it affects the body
- Why Greenhouse acts as a natural cryochamber and supports the production of red blood cells
- How climate conditions promote regeneration — not just for athletes
We have a unique microclimate under Orlica. But you already know that. However, we are not sure that everyone is aware for sure what the secret of its effect on the body's performance lies. It all lies in the unusual variability of atmospheric pressure. But in turn.
Zieleniec is one of those places that escapes simple categories. Although it is mainly associated with winter sports, it is worth looking at it more broadly — especially through the prism of the unique microclimate available all year round and without restrictions.Located between the Orlicki and Bystrzycki mountains, at an altitude of about 960 m above sea level, Zieleniec offers more than just beautiful views and the possibility of active rest. Its climate resembles alpine conditions — and that is precisely why it has such strong health-promoting properties.

Almost like in the Alps? It's not an exaggeration!
Normal atmospheric pressure at sea level or in places like Wroclaw is about 760 mm of mercury column. In Zieleniec, it is typically slightly lower, in the order of 720-730 mm. However, as many years of measurements have shown, there are days when the pressure drops to the level of 650 mm, which corresponds to an altitude of 3 kilometers or even higher. This variability is caused by constant drift-type winds blowing from the Alps towards northern Europe, which, disturbed by weather conditions and terrain (especially the Orlica ridge), cause pressure suction on the Zieleniec side. The direct impact of this unique microclimate, characterized by reduced atmospheric pressure and partial oxygen pressure (although proportionally less than at high altitudes), on the human body translates into the ability to perform physical exertion and overall performance.
The key mechanism is the stimulation of erythropoiesis, that is, the increased production of erythrocytes (red blood cells). Studies conducted in Zieleniec on nearly 7,000 people showed that even in those who did not exercise, but only stayed in the village, a statistically significant increase in the number of juvenile blood cells was observed after just one week. This means increasing the oxygen transport capacity of the blood in the same volume.
For athletes and people working on fitness, this is of particular importance. Staying in Zieleniec allows you to adapt to the conditions of reduced oxygen pressure, as during high-altitude training, but at a lower, more bearable altitude. Lighter physical efforts in Zieleniec can trigger symptoms and physiological reactions that at lower altitudes appear only with very hard training. The body protects itself by triggering anaerobic metabolic sources and incurring an “oxygen debt”, which increases the respiratory rate - a phenomenon also observed as a result of high-altitude training.
Thus, the microclimate of Zieleniec allows you to achieve an effect similar to training at high altitude (hypoxia), but in conditions that are easier to tolerate. Adaptation to normal altitude after a stay in Zieleniec (1-2 weeks) occurs instantly, and at the same time the acquired “reserve” of blood transport capacity is preserved. This makes the training effects in Zieleniec more predictable than at much higher altitudes.
Microclimate and Luftwaffe pilots
Historically, the uniqueness of the Zieleniec climate was noticed even before World War II by the Germans, who in 1933-1936 organized a Luftwaffe air preparation center here. This was to prepare them for flights at altitudes above 2 km, at a time when the cabins were not airtight. This suggests that even then the influence of climate on the body's ability to adapt to reduced pressure and its importance for fitness was understood. Modern observations confirm pre-war research and experience, which is used today by groups of athletes.
The microclimate of Zieleniec also has a beneficial effect on regeneration — both after physical exertion and mental strain. Being in such conditions promotes the internal balance of the body, reduces the level of stress and accelerates the return to a stable mental form. That is why this place is appreciated by both competitive athletes and people seeking peace and wellness. It is worth noting that the positive effect of the microclimate was observed not only in physically active people, but also in those who only walked and rested.
Everything you need is right here
Zieleniec is not only a microclimate, but also a rich infrastructure that allows you to practice sports all year round. In winter, tens of kilometers of trails and modern infrastructure await skiers, and in summer, cyclists and hikers can use singletracks, observation towers and mountain trails. The unique conditions mean that every effort undertaken in Zieleniec — even moderate — brings clearly better results than similar activity carried out in lowland conditions.
The surrounding nature and the environment in general also deserve special attention. The location of Zieleniec and the small industrialization of the region make the air here extremely pollution-free. In the summer, when car traffic decreases, the level of air purity reaches its maximum. In such conditions, the regeneration of the body occurs faster, and the respiratory system functions more efficiently. It is also worth mentioning the water — coming from deep springs, extremely clean and rich in mineral components. Its quality, although rarely publicized, is no less exceptional than the climate. For years, it has been a natural source of hydration for athletes and residents, and its health-promoting properties have been confirmed many times in practice.

Zieleniec — natural laboratory of health
The microclimate of Zieleniec is not a marketing label, but a real physiological phenomenon. It directly affects the body's ability to exercise, its regeneration and overall functioning. Staying here can be considered as a form of health prevention — regardless of age, activity level or physical condition. Not to mention the holiday vacation.
At a time when many of us are looking for places to truly rest and recuperate, Greenhouse is becoming a natural choice. This is not only a space for skiers and cyclists, but also for everyone who wants to breathe deeply, charge energy and improve health in the rhythm of mountain air.The issue of microclimate and its beneficial effect on the human body is described in detail by Prof. Marek Zatoń from the Wrocław AWF in a podcast, which you can listen to at this link.
