Greenery — cheers!
Excitement for exclusivity
Much more than a macro
(Micro) climate and (macro) emotions — what more could you want?

Just a 30-minute walk from Zelenets, a place that looks like a fragment of the Siberian taiga awaits you. The peat bog under Zieleńcem is one of the most valuable floristic nature reserves in Poland — it impresses with its wildness, history counted in thousands of years and an unusual palette of colors that changes with each season.
‍

From this text you will learn:

  • Where exactly is the Peat pod Zieleniec and how to get there
  • Why this floristic reserve is so unique and how it was created
  • What makes it an ideal place to walk at any time of the year

‍
Unique in scale not only of the region, but also of the whole country natural monument. The peat bog under Zieleńcem is a unique place, being a floristic nature reserve that delights at any time of the year.
‍

How to get to the peat bog?

The peat bog under Zieleniec is located only half an hour's walk from the center of Zieleniec. A green trail leads to it — gentle, easy and accessible to virtually everyone. A walk through the surrounding forests is a pleasure in itself, and the final of this tour is a reserve, which is often compared to the Siberian taiga for a reason. It is an excellent option for a short trip, but also a great complement to a longer stay in Zieleniec — regardless of whether you come here in summer, autumn or spring.

‍‍When planning even a short stay in the area, it is imperative to consider you need to consider visiting this unusual place. The time of year does not matter much - it is beautiful here both in early spring, when unusually lush nature comes to life, but also in summer, and of course in autumn. At all times, the palette of colors awakens the imagination and shapes a memorable landscape.

Wildlife and history dating back 8000 years

The peat bog is located on the western slope of Bieśce, in the middle of the mysterious Bystrica Mountains. The depth, or as we should say the pulp of peat, here reaches 8 meters. The peat bog was formed due to a specific substrate - impervious rocks. Marbles and sandstones deposited on gneiss, thanks to the horizontal terrain make it a place practically without drainage.

The entire 270 ha peat bog is formed by two basins: “Topielisko” and “Black Swamp”, while the nature reserve includes the Topielisko and only a fragment of the Black Swamp. It is worth adding that the charms and uniqueness of this place were already appreciated at the beginning of the 20th century - the first, small reserve was created here already in 1919. Some equate the Zelenets peat bog to the Siberian taiga, and indeed there is something for sure. The fact that this place was created about 8000 years ago is even more exciting!

Vegetation as from another world

The extraordinary flora of the peatland — mosses, sedges, sunflowers, dwarf pines and spruces — creates a unique landscape, unseen elsewhere in the Sudetenland. Thanks to special wooden footbridges, tourists can safely move around the peat bog without harming its sensitive ecosystem.

This place is literally buzzing with life. Dozens of species of insects, birds and plants create an amazing mosaic of biodiversity here. In the spring you can hear the intense singing of birds, in the summer you can observe the hunting dragonflies, and in the fall you can admire the colors of the peat moss.

‍

The perfect trip for everyone

Visiting the Peatland is facilitated by special guided wooden walkways, which protect the local vegetation and nature. A trip to the Peatland under Zielencem should be recommended to representatives of each generation, regardless of individual passions. This place impresses with its mystery, wildness, but also the intensity of plant species or insects, of which dozens live here and of course birds. How little in any place in the Sudetenland, it is in the Peatland that you can not only see, but also hear incredible nature.
